Monroe Art Center

A Christmas Carol

A collaborative project between the Monroe Theatre Guild and the Monroe Art Center

This version of the Christmas classic was performed in December of 2007 & 2008. The set was custom built to fit the stage in the Monroe Art Center's concert hall. Some challenges included "hiding" the grand piano, creating a sub-floor to cover the existing hardwood and creating seven different scenes in a very small space. The set was constructed and painted ahead of time in a separate location and then assembled in place.

The set was loaded in on December 2, 2007 and assembled.
The finished set.
Set detail. This end piece was on casters so the unit would spin to reveal the tombstone.
In use set. The "Gentlemen" come calling on Scrooge to ask for a charity donation.
Here, Bob Crachitt sits at his desk in front of the fireplace. This was also a spinning unit with brick buildings on the back.
And we did it all again in 2008!
