In this day-and-age of Reduce and Reuse, what better way is there to teach the importance of recycling than creating one-of-a-kind artworks using the very items most of us throw away. The Art of Recycling is an innovative program that inspires and educates young people to recycle by turning trash into treasure. This unique experience can be enjoyed as a hands-on project as a demonstration for schools, festivals, libraries or special events. Wisconsin recycle artists, Suzanne Miller and Nikki Cooper will use their fun, animated style of teaching to talk about the importance of recycling and will demonstrate and teach their process of creating whimsical art forms using discarded newspaper, plastic containers, bottles, wire, wood and fabric scraps. This program can be adapted for all age groups and offers many options for demonstration and hands-on projects. Programs can last a half-hour or all day.

Suzanne holds a BFA degree in
Art and Graphic Design from
UW-Madison. She has worked
professionally in many areas of
art throughout her life including
graphic design, illustration,
painting, sculpture, mural painting ,
theatrical set and prop design. She currently teaches art to pre-K through 5th grade students at St Victor’s School in Monroe, WI, teaches art and theatre classes for the Monroe Theatre Guild and continues to work on her sculptures and paintings in her home studio. Her fascination with recycled sculpture took root in her many years as a theatrical prop designer. The techniques learned in that field led to much experimentation and finessing of the art form.
Suzanne's work has been sold throughout the United States and she has won numerous awards, not only for her art, but for her public service and dedication to educating the public in the visual and performing arts.
Nikki Cooper is primarily a
self trained artist who started her
artistic career as a high school
student creating a weekly comic
strip for her local newspaper.
After taking many classes to
hone her artistic abilities, she
discovered a unique way to turn
her comical doodles into 3 dimensional sculptures. This recycled art form has become a passion as well as
a business for Nikki. Her one of a kind recycled sculptures which she calls Nik-er-Doodles, have been featured in gallery shows, accepted for a national project, and are created for private and retail sales.
She holds bachelor degrees in animal science and agricultural education. Nikki taught high school agriculture and FFA, 4-H youth programs and actively helps with FFA events. Most recently she has begun teaching art classes to pre-K through high school students with the Monroe Theatre Guild in Monroe,WI.
